The UK officially acknowledges International War Animal Day on February 24, an international day of recognition, for animals involved in War and when we remember the sacrifice of countless animals killed in the line of duty over the centuries.

To mark this occasion Cheshire Military Museum has a ‘Fun Friday’; half term family activities with an animal theme. Visitors will be able to decorate their own Animal Hero to take home.

The activity will run on the 21st & 28th February from 11.30 until 3pm. There is no need to book, normal admission fees apply.

The last chance to see Cheshire Military Museums’ special exhibition ‘Animals at War’ will be on Sunday 2nd March when it closes to the public. The exhibition tells the stories of Animals who have served in the military and in civil defence.

It features some of the protective equipment currently used by dogs serving in the British Army which has been kindly loaned to the museum by the 1 Military Working Dogs Regiment.

Find out about parachuting pigeons, dogs searching for survivors during the Blitz and how rats using their superpower (a sensitive nose even better than dogs) are vital in helping to clear war zones around the World today.

FUN DAYS: 21st & 28th February from 11.30 until 3pm.

LAST DAY of Animals at War: Sunday 2nd March. 11 am. until 3pm.
